What is humic acid? And how is it like diamonds? Humic and fulvic acids are the decomposed 
by-products of dinosaur-era plants and animals. Millions of years of aging and compaction will eventually turn dinosaur-era waste into coal, diamonds and a layer of humic and fulvic acids. This acid layer is what interests us most for your garden. Humic acid can be harvested and ground into granules or dissolved into a liquid.
The benefits of humic acid for soils and plants are significant. Humic acid can act as a natural chelating agent for valuable micronutrients. Chelation is a type of bonding of ions and molecules to metal ions such as iron, copper, zinc or manganese which are essential to plant health. High Ph soils , which are common in Utah, inhibit the solubility and uptake of these metals. Lowering soil Ph and incorporating chelates help to make nutrients more absorbable by plants. Humic acid can increase yields by up to 70% while reducing the need for fertilizers and pesticides by 30%.

Nearly every plant process ie. seed germination, growth of roots and shoots, respiration, photosynthesis, disease and pest resistance, and crop yield is enhanced by humic acid.
